I just plopped the credit card down and purchased an EG4 18Kpv with their battery. Apologies for the long history...
My current system has 2 solar systems. One installed in 2007 with Twenty One 220 watt Sunpower Panels connected to a Sunpower SPR-5200 inverter. The other installed 2023 with Ten 425 watts Sunpower (Maxeon) panels with Enphase micro inverters. The 10 additional panels allowed me to get NEM2 as my NEM1 was set to expire.
With the blackouts in the Oakland, CA hills, I was looking for a battery to keep my house going when the squirrels jump on a wire and PG&E shuts off the power.
I chose the EG4 18K and a EG4 wallmount battery.
In the EG4 18Kpv, I will connect the Enphase system to Generator connection, get rid of the SPR-5200 and connect that to PV connection in EG4 18K then add grid, 200 amp main panel (load) and battery. Seems pretty straight forward...
In pulling apart things to see what was in store for me... I found some questionable wiring in the PV disconnect and the SPR-5200. I am interested in thoughts on what is going on here and what I should do to make it better. History note, when the 2007 panels were installed I had them upgrade the service to 200amp. I recently had to change the main sub panel panel (200 amp main breaker is in separate panel) to 220amp panel to meet the 120 rule. I did the panel swap myself and found they (electrician that did the 200amp upgrade) had mixed grounds and neutrals in the sub panel. So, dubious already of the wiring done in 2007.
Pictures attached. 200 amp sub panel on left. PV disconnect for 21 panels in the middle and SPR-5200 on the right. Disconnect wiring and SPR-5200 wiring are the other two photos. I will remove the SPR-5200 and put the battery and new inverter in its place from bottom up. I looks to me that they are only disconnecting the negative in the PV disconnect and this seems wrong to me. Can I get thoughts on whether that correct. Also, they used white wire for the positive going into the SPR-5200 without adding some red tape (Easy fix). Mostly wondering if both the positive and negative should be disconnected in the PV disconnect.
Thank you.!
